Today is Owen’s first birthday!! It’s so crazy to think that he’s already a year old! We had a busy day and had a joint nautical themed bday party for him and the baby I nanny for who turned one on the 4th! More pics and stuff relating to that later, but I just wanted to wish my baby boy a very happy bday! πŸ˜€ I love you Bub!!

Yep, we had the local news announce his bday! We didn’t let him get too messy…maybe later we will πŸ˜‰

And I have to post a pic of him eating a cupcake lol πŸ™‚

I love these two guys!

Trader Joes makes sesame honey cashews that are SO addicting! So instead of buying a bag, I thought I’d try to make my own πŸ˜€ The original recipe is from Two Dancing Buckeyes, but I tweaked it a lil.

Sesame Honey Cashews
Ingredients
2 cups raw cashews
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
3/4 teaspoon sugar
Sesame seeds (as much or little as you like)

Directions
β€’ Spread the cashews evenly on a rimmed baking sheet and roast them in a 250Β° oven for about 8-10 minutes, until they just start to brown. Move them around a bit halfway through to make sure that they don’t burn.

β€’ Meanwhile, melt the butter and honey together. As soon as you pull the cashews from the oven, toss them in the honey-butter mixture so that they are evenly coated.

β€’Then sprinkle the sugar, salt, and sesame seeds and toss them again – I like mine like the Trader Joes version – heavily coated with sesame seeds. It balances out the flavors, I find. Dan made a good point and said that shaking them in a baggie with the sesame seeds might coat them more evenly.

β€’ Put them back in the oven for 8-10 more minutes and watch them to make sure they don’t burn. When they come out, toss them once again to pick up any stray sesame seeds, then let them cool completely on the sheet.

Today Owen turns 11 months old! Eek! My lil baby is growing up! 😒 Haha πŸ˜‰
He’s walking 85% of the time now, can wave, let’s me know when he’s done with food (will mimic “all done” if we sign it), and is slowly learning how to say “night night” and it’s meaning!! He knows his name and comes over when we call him (which is really handy now that he can walk – I don’t hafta pick him up anymore whenever I leave the room, he just walks over)!

There’s a lot to be thankful for these days! πŸ™‚

β€’ Our car got hit while someone was trying to parallel park in front of it – tho this may be a bad thing, the person luckily has insurance and our car’s gonna get fixed. Yeah, it’s inconvenient but at least no one got hurt and the car still runs! Plus it was hit in the same spot where Dan accidentally hit a pole earlier, so it’s really nice that we’re getting it fixed!! Gotta be thankful about that!

β€’ I’m so thankful that Dan was able to watch Owen and put him to bed on New Year’s so I could meet up with a couple friends – Danielle and Amy! We went to the Driftwood Room downtown and had a lot of fun catching up (plus it was nice to have some baby-free time)!

β€’ The family I nanny for have an 11 month old who is 5 days older than Owen, and they have offered to have a joint birthday party for the two at their house!

What things are you thankful for that have occurred within the past week?

Hi everybody! Ok, so WordPress just emailed my stats for 2012, and tho my numbers may seem low, I’m actually pretty surprised that they’re so high! For my first year on this blog!

20121230-203803.jpg
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 4,400 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 7 years to get that many views.

My post Blessings (10/31/12) had the highest views (168!). And there are people from 31 countries that read my blog (mainly the US, Canada, and the UK)!
Click here to see the complete report.

Pretty cool!

This year has been a whirlwind – being pregnant, going through labor and delivery, holding my very own baby for the first time, moving, the fire, moving again, moving once more, going thru drivers ed, getting my license, buying a car with Dan, getting my boating license, getting baptized, rehoming my dog Maisy, the world ending, starting new hobbies like sewing, being a SAHM, then getting a job as a nanny, and finally paying off all of my debt! (Yep, I’m going into 2013 debt free baybay! ;D)

What a year!

My plans for 2013:
β€’ Start school again
β€’ Donate at least 10% of my income
β€’ Get a pass to SWCC and take Owen swimming on a regular basis again!
β€’ Get back into eating healthier and working out regularly again (this is a must)
β€’ Do more stuff with Dan – fishing, crabbing, shooting, movies, dates, kissing, camping, concerts, tubing – anything! Having a baby is such an interesting experience; we are obviously together a lot to take care of Owen, but at the same time we can seem so distant because everything is about raising a baby and it can be easy to forget to nurture our relationship too. So more time with Dan doing the things we want and love to do is goin on the list πŸ™‚

Well that just about wraps up this year! Thank you everyone who reads this! I hope you all had a great 2012 and an even better 2013! πŸ˜€

Christmas Eve
Dan and I took Owen to the candlelight Christmas Eve service at Rolling Hills.

20121227-203539.jpg
The Solid Rock service was actually on Sunday at the normal service times and locations. Rolling Hills did not provide childcare during the candlelight services because they wanted the entire family to enjoy them. There were a few times when Dan got up and walked to the back of the church holding Owen so he didn’t interrupt anyone (thanks Dan!!), but overall I think he did ok.

Then when we got home it was just about time to open our stockings, give Owen a bath, read him “The Night Before Christmas”, and put him to bed.

Christmas #2
The day after Christmas, Dan’s kids came over and we celebrated with them! It’s always so fun to see them all, especially since Dan absolutely loves them to pieces and is always so happy when they are around. πŸ™‚ We exchanged gifts, ate pizza, and had a great time! Of course, Hallie and Owen were getting in trouble together hahaha but it’s so hard to get angry at these adorable faces πŸ™‚

20121227-204227.jpg
Isn’t it so funny that they have the same expression on their face?? And Owen looks like a Hobbit in this pic with his fat foot sticking up LOL!
Owen got more clothes, a pair of new sneakers, and a couple of rubber duckies (which he loves)!

20121227-204542.jpg
Preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas was at times stressful, but it was so worth it. We all had a great time. We’re so blessed to have those in our lives – my family, Dan’s kids, and of course friends. My favorite part of Christmas used to be opening my presents, but now my favorite part is watching family and friends open my presents to them. πŸ™‚
It’s so weird that the holidays are (just about) over, now we can plan Owen’s first birthday! 😐 How is that sneaking up on us already?!

Merry Christmas everyone!! We just ate, opened all of our presents, and now everyone has gone home. We are now putting Owen down for bed, and to tell you the truth, today was really great. Dan and I were able to go to coffee this morning (even if we had to cut it short cus of Owen’s impatience lol), then we went home and cooked, got ready for family to come over, and we watched some Christmas movies. We all got some really great gifts, at least I know that Owen and I did! But the most important thing is knowing that everyone had a great time! We had a really yummy feast and watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the cartoon version). Owen got a couple of hoodies, some toys, books, movies, a maraca and shaker egg (Santa’s stocking stuffer to Owen), a rocking horse from Grandma, and a gift basket from Santa full of clothes, Disney Sing-a-long tapes, socks, and a toy ring of keys (Owen LOVES to play with our actual keys, so we Santa figured it’d be better for Owen to have his own).

20121225-203613.jpg
Dan opened up a CD for Owen at his credit union and I made a blanket for him. Owen really really loved his blanket πŸ˜€ as soon as he saw it and felt it, he started to lay down and curl up close to it. πŸ™‚ That was the best part of Christmas for me! πŸ™‚ I bought the fabric for the blanket at Jo-Ann Fabric and used my new sewing machine to assemble it. It is SUPER soft and I might put a satin trim around it (I have the binding, but can’t decide if I’d/Owen would like it).

20121225-204301.jpg
I got Dan a Magic Bullet (for work), a homemade coupon book, a Starbucks giftcard, and some nice soap from Lush. Dan got me giftcards to Forever 21, H&M, lots of kitchen stuff, a Paula Deen calendar and a Paula Deen notepad (I love Paula Deen LOL!!).

We also made our own Christmas cards too! I took an idea I saw on Pinterest and Dan, Owen and I made them! They turned out real good!

We had such a great day and I’m really really pleased with how Owen’s first Christmas turned out! πŸ˜€

20121225-205136.jpg

Hi! Sooo last week I didn’t post at all because I started my new job. I’m watching two boys (plus Owen!!) during the week. One kid is 3 years old and the other is 10 months (5 days older than Owen). They’re a handful, but this past week went much better than I was expecting!

In all honesty, Owen is the most demanding out of all three. We are in a new environment and he has to share me with two other kiddos, so he is not liking it to say the least. He cries every time I leave the room and oftentimes fusses just so I can hold him. It’s very frustrating. But, I have faith that he’ll adjust…and I just need to be patient. πŸ™‚

Another thing is, my time with Dan and alone time with Owen is being cut down drastically. I get home after Dan does (around 630ish), we eat dinner, and then pretty soon it is bath/bed time for Owen (between 730 and 8), then bed time for us.

Please be patient with me as I get in a groove and figure out a routine with work, family time, housework, working out, getting presents ready, and posting on this blog. πŸ™‚

So what’s new aside from my new job? Remember our advent calendar I made for December? Yeah, we lasted about 10 days and haven’t done a single activity since then. Not because we don’t have the time, actually it’s because Dan doesn’t want to do it lol :/ I just wish he would’ve told me that he didn’t care about it earlier when I was making it, instead of getting me excited to be doing this and putting in the time and effort to create it. So I guess I’ll make one when Owen’s older and do it then. Dan’s not invited to join us then LOL >:)

Also, now that I am actually getting an income I am able to pay off the rest of the medical bills from having Owen! It’s not much (about $700), but when I only had a few hundred dollars coming in every month it really was a burden to try to pay it off plus home bills and Owen’s necessities. So I am SO happy to be getting this bill taken care of!

Another thing that I’ve been doing lately is crafting. Sewing and making things – I’m sewing Owen a baby blanket for Christmas, we’re making Christmas cards, I have fabric for a throw, and there’s a project I’m getting ideas for, but it’s a secret for now πŸ˜‰ Sewing and crafting is really really soothing for me, but unfortunately that is another thing that has been put on the back burner for now (until I get my schedule figured out).

As for Owen? He is taking steps now and has been slowly learning how to for a while now. I am not saying he’s walking yet, full on, but he can take like 4 steps in a row at times. Very exciting stuff!! He has 7 teeth (four on top, three on bottom), can wave, and clap his hands! His favorite words are “mama”, “dada”, and crying. Oh wait, that’s not a word lol :/

In conclusion, I’m leaving you all with a cute pic of Owen πŸ˜‰
